Simply gratitude

I’m anticipating this week will be a challenging one. I’m not really sure why, it’s just a feeling.

My mind tends to follow my body. By that I mean, if I feel bad physically, then my mind tends to be more negative. As I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve had to be very intentional about switching my mind to the positive.

There is always something to be thankful for

that’s what the sticker says…

That is so true.

To be honest, I used to have a really hard time practicing gratitude.

At the end of the day, I would sit and try to come up with something I was thankful for and sometimes I couldn’t come up with anything! Or I’d write the same things over and over again.

I’m a mom of three young kids. They’re at home with me because we homeschool. And, I’m an introvert. By the end of the day, I’m usually tired and just very drained, so that’s probably why I had a hard time with gratitude. It’s probably not the best time of day for that exercise. God has shown me though that I’m more prone to complaining than giving thanks. I guess that’s my personality or my disposition. So, He graciously led me to start there – to take my complaints and turn them into positives.

For example, when I would feel like complaining about having to clean, I would instead give thanks that I have a family to clean up after. That I’m in relatively good health so I’m capable. That my kids are in good health. That the mess is really an opportunity to teach my kids. And so on.

It does take time and practice, but I’ve found gratitude to be very worthwhile to my wellbeing. It’s a crucial part of my wellness.

Do you practice gratitude? How has it has helped you?
