He gave it all.
He’s always there and receives me as I am. Still, He invites me deeper into this marvellous friendship that is solely based on His love. Jesus Christ – what a Friend!
This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you.

He took the first step towards us in friendship. He bases this friendship on His love, not on mutual admiration or shared interests. We did not choose Him and we do not deserve His kindness.
We can trust Him when it seems like He doesn’t come through; His thoughts are not like ours. As we see in the story of Lazarus, He didn’t keep him from dying because He intended to raise Him from the dead. We do not need Him to move as we’ve asked; His love is already proven.
He valued our friendship more than His life. There is grace to reveal our need and brokenness because He is not going to turn away when we fail to do things perfectly. He is a friend to sinners who need Him.
We should live in a way that reflects our gratitude for His mercy. We should seek to deepen that friendship by seeking His presence and listening to what He has to say.
