Names of Jesus – the Word

Jesus, the Word; a revelation of God to us.

Whenever I approach reading and studying the bible as an academic exercise, and not an encounter with our loving God, it always leads to discontent. I’m thankful that He always lead me back.

Discontent is a lot like hunger in that it reveals a need. Take it as a reminder, a nudge, to return Home. Go where satisfaction is guaranteed. He came to dwell with us, won’t you enter His presence today? It’s an act of love.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

‭‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭1‬, ‭14‬

Notes are from “Praying the Names of Jesus” by Ann Spangler.

As “the Word”, everything about Jesus speaks to us about God.

He is God’s dynamic, creative, life-giving word, living and active. God’s word has the power to not just communicate His purpose but accomplish His will. It never returns empty. Those who hear His voice will have eternal life.

Jesus is still speaking. Read His written word; the more we read, the more we see. Listen carefully and expectantly for His voice. Then, obey, i.e. joyfully do and keep, His word and be made new.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬
