The promised Gift

It’s that time of year again!

No, not summer, although I love all the sunshine-y days.

No, not Christmas either, but I like where your mind is at.

I’m talking about Illustrated Faith Camp!

Each year, Illustrated Faith and community “camp” out in a study over the months of June and July. Last year, we spent the Summer in the Psalms. This year we are in the book of Acts.

The study is written by Taylor Rauschkolb who is @bravelittletaylor on Instagram. It looks at the lives of the early church to see what life surrendered to and empowered by the Holy Spirit looks like. The timing is incredible as that is where God has me currently. I dove into it head (heart?) first and it’s so good!

As I read the first session of the devotional, the word “gift” (or “promise” in other bible translations) really stood out to me.

And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

Acts 1:4-5

It echoed last week’s sermon about God’s grace and how we have nothing to offer Him but our sin. His posture towards us is as Giver, ours is as recipient. He gave His Son – a promise worth the wait. He gave His promised Spirit, again – worth the wait. So now, I eagerly await our promised future with Him in glory. Surely it will come soon enough and it, too, will be so worth the wait!

Products and approach

I’ve been enjoying using my faith journal alongside Illustrated Faith devotionals this year and keeping with a fairly simple process of journaling my notes and prayers. However, as this study is based on Acts and I’m keenly interested in the subject, I wanted to read the entire book.

So, I put together this disc-bound notebook which contains the devotionals, some note pages, and an ESV Scripture Journal so that everything is in one place. The scripture journal was initially coil-bound so taking it apart was easy enough. I used discs and a paper punch from The Happy Planner. I also added tabs to the devotionals to separate and easily navigate to each session. The “Seek First the Kingdom” cover page is by Illustrated faith; find it here: Studio Print | Holy Spirit. I also have a clear disc-bound cover on the entire notebook.

The devotional kits are sold out (at the time of this post) but the digital version as well as related items can be found on the Illustrated Faith website. Check out the #IF_CampActs hashtag and @illustratedfaith feed on Instagram for more details.
