Safe in His Presence

He enables us to do the work well; not driven or limited by fear, but with discipline by His power and fuelled by His love.

There are many challenges to overcome in any work we do. When deadlines loom, that can provoke fear that the work may not be done in time and cause us to put in more time or effort. When health is impaired, that can provoke fear that the work cannot be done or will worsen health causing us to overcompensate in unhelpful ways. When the work is hard, it can be discouraging to continue causing us to stall or even quit.

It is human to feel fear but we don’t have to remain there. We don’t have to let that be the reason why we work. Nor should we allow fear to cause us to shrink back from what we are called to do.

For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

I started with The Sea set and stamped the sailboat in the water scene. I did not get a good stamp impression and had to play around with ink and a black pen to enhance the image.

Next, I used the Cloudy Day Edge stencil to create the background at the top using blue ink. I also stamped some birds from Take Flight in grey ink so that they’re very subtly in the background. I added yellow ink with a blending brush to mimic the sun. And then, I used pink, purple, and orange inks with a blending brush to give the hint of a sunset starting.

I stamped more birds from Take Flight in black ink onto mixed media paper and cut them out, adding them to the page to give some dimension. I also stamped a bird on the left page to unite the pages. Then, I added the sentiment (on soaring) to the top of the right page in navy ink.

The sentiment (on fear) was stamped using the Have Courage set. I also stamped those words near the gutter to cover up some of the ink that got onto the left page. The ones on being safe in His presence was typed on my typewriter and shaded with blue ink. Lastly, I highlighted the text using a blue marker and added a date stamp.

🎶 Safe Harbour ~ Jonny Wright

It takes self-control to combat fear; to not let our flesh win but choose to live by the Spirit of God. Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit; it is grown as we repeatedly make this choice. He gives us the power to rise above the fear. He gives us the wisdom to see that we are safe because we are greatly beloved. He reminds us that we do not work alone.

But you, dress yourself for work; arise, and say to them everything that I command you. Do not be dismayed by them, lest I dismay you before them.
