Rest in hope

Rest has seemed like such an unattainable thing for most of my life.

My mind in particular is very much lacking in that. So, I certainly don’t know how to be at rest and this is why I am on this journey and sharing on this blog. God has been faithful to teach me so much from His word and others on the topic, but I am ever in need of His help.

This month, I’m journaling through “Rest Here” which is such a timely devotional from @kristina.proffitt for Illustrated Faith. I think we can all use some rest in these turbulent times and the name alone makes me take a deep breath.

Enter God’s rest

In Rest Here, Kristina encourages us to enter into God’s rest. To create space for physical and spiritual rest. She shares some of the ways we can do that as well as the benefits in doing so.

there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.

Hebrews 4:9-11

We enter God’s rest by choosing to turn towards Him, instead of turning away, and walking in obedience instead of unbelief. We cannot do this apart from Jesus Christ.

Waiting is an opportunity to rest in Him

In the first session of the devotional – titled Pause – Kristina reminds us that making space to pause, rest, and intentionally practice stillness is an invitation into deeper fellowship with God. It is where we remember His goodness. It is where we learn to trust, surrender, and truly know that He is God.

From my study of the scripture references included, I loved the reminder that waiting on our faithful God is never wasted time but hope-filled, soul-restorative rest.

Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!

Psalm 27:14

Products used

My journaling is in my faith journal which is a basic, blank, A5 notebook.

I was led to use the digital version instead of the physical kit this month. This turned out to be a wise choice as there was a national postal strike in Canada soon afterwards. So, I used a mix of elements by Illustrated Faith that I had in my stash as well as some printables from the digital Print Pray Shop.

🎶 A Little Longer ~ Consumed by Fire

To wait is to live with hope.

It is in the wait, as we draw near to our holy God, that our hearts are tested and examined. It is where our loving God returns us to Himself with hearts and hands lifted up.

So, be intentional about making the space for rest and practice stillness. Don’t be too quick to leave this waiting place, beloved. But, lean in, linger, and behold our God.
