Mastery of God’s Word

I’m closing out February’s reading/book theme with some sermon notes.

They’re from a recent message based on Ezra who “had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.” [Ezra‬ ‭7‬:‭10‬]

I added it to the front of my faith planner as a reminder of why I am studying God’s word. The servant of God should master and be mastered by His word, and guide others in its mastery. Amen!

If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have given me life.

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭119‬:‭92‬-‭93‬

I wanted to keep this page more on the minimal side in terms of colour so that the notes stood out most. I started with the background using the Star Pattern stencil and applied purple ink with a blending brush. There was some yellow residue on the stencil which resulted in this beige colour.

Next, I stamped the shelves from Library Treasures twice on mixed media paper. I used brown ink, instead of black, so that they look more muted. Then, I cut them out using the coordinating dies and coloured them using markers. I trimmed off the edges so that I could glue them together as one long shelf. After I glued them to the page, I stamped the words “I love you” over the books using the Typewriter Alpha set. After that, I stamped the book, magnifying glass, and glasses from the same Library Treasures set and cut them out using the dies.

Next, I stamped the sermon title using Skinny Caps Alpha and Typewriter Alpha. Then, I added my notes. I used some skinny washi tape to cover the text in some areas, then stamped images from the Read More set beside and slightly over each point. I finished them off using the die cuts from Library Treasures.

I added a hint of colouring using markers. Then, added some sentiments using stamps from Read More and Worshipful Wordfetti using brown ink.

🎶 I Lose My Ability ~ Jonathan & Melissa Helser

Goodbye fear and goodbye shame
Goodbye hopelessness and pain
I have heard the Father call my name

Goodbye running, goodbye hiding
Goodbye heaviness and lying
The new has come, the old has washed away

Hello joy and hello truth
Hello love, I’ve longed for You
I’ve waited for this moment all my days

Hello mercy, hello peace
You have found me on my knees
I believe I’ll never be the same

‘Cause when I see Your face
Everything changes
In the radiance of Your smile
You got this way of
Chasing away those
Shadows that hang around

What a blessing we have in God’s word! To know and be known. To encounter and be encountered, and radically changed in the process.

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
