You rule!
You’ve probably heard that phrase before, but if not – it is a common slang that is used when someone has done something praiseworthy. It’s another way of saying “you’re awesome”. It’s also used to show appreciation, similar to saying “you’re the best”.
This came to mind as I was thinking about the word “inheritance” this month. It has been on my mind since the beginning of the month, so I’m glad the Glorious Grace study of Ephesians by Illustrated Faith touches on the topic.
What grace He has bestowed!
To be taken from walking in disobedience to walking in good works. From death to life. From wrath to glory. We are made co-heirs with Jesus, sharing in all that is rightfully His – gospel promises, an eternal kingdom, imperishable glory, the earth itself, and God Himself.
What a blessing; what an undeserved privilege!
The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
Romans 8:16-18
Steward rule
Studying this from the perspective of a steward adds another layer; one of responsibility. I’m seeing what it means to rule in a new light. I’m seeing suffering and glory in new light.
To suffer is to die to self and live as God commanded while surrendered to His will. It is to see the despair in the world and respond with compassion and intercession. Suffering is also to be persecuted because of our allegiance to Jesus Christ.
To have glory is to be a ruler as Jesus exemplified. We were created and given dominion over the earth as caretakers. We were supposed to be the intermediary between God and others, a people who reflect His character and point others to Him. We fall short of God’s glory when we do not live like this, when we do not rule like this.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Matthew 5:5
We’re chosen to partner with God in the work He’s doing. It is our business to know what is happening on this earth and with its people; to see and intercede. We should have grace, mercy, and compassion towards those who have not accepted His gift of salvation and still live in bondage.

be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
Colossians 1:9-12

🎶 Inheritance ~ Emmy Rose
I’d rather be a vagabond with You inside my heart
Than dwell in all the mansions of the world
I’d lay down all my treasure, I’d give up all I own
To follow wherever You go
And Your presence is my inheritance
What more could I want
And Your Spirit is my portion, Lord
What more could I want
You are my home
Where else would I go
I want to walk with You, Jesus
Dwell in Your nearness
The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.
Psalm 16:5-6
