Light shines

This is the last page in this series on shining His light and it’s a simple one:

Light shines; that’s what it does.

Jesus said that we are light. We are given His Spirit and placed in spaces where He wants to illuminate. We cannot not shine. However, we should seek to fan into flame this gift we are given and shine with great intention.

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭14‬-‭16‬

Process and products used:

These pages in the NIV Journal the Word Bible (New Testament) pocket bible feature the following products by Creative Worship Stamps. These are affiliate links, please see the Privacy Policy for details.

I wanted to echo the first page in the series – Stay Lit – so I used the Star Pattern stencil all over the right page and over the verse on the left page using yellow ink.

Next, I stamped the lantern and holly from the Lantern Light stamps set onto mixed media paper and cut them out using the coordinating dies. I also stamped the candle inside of the lantern. Then, I coloured them using watercolour paint.

I wanted to create an effect representing darkness so I swiped some brown ink around the edges of the page. I wasn’t satisfied with how that looked so I went over those areas using the Lots of Dots Mini stencil and the same brown ink.

Before glueing the lantern and holly to the page, I stamped some candles in the background using the Lantern Light stamps set. And, I coloured the flames using a yellow marker.

Next, I created the title using the Boss Lady Outline Alpha and Typewriter Alpha stamp sets. I coloured in the word “light” using the yellow marker and added some detail using a white gel pen.

Lastly, I finished the page with a date stamp and white paint splatters.

Be encouraged

Light is meant to shine into and illuminate the darkness.

Sometimes, depending on our perspective, we can look within or look out at the world or at our circumstances and can conclude that it looks pretty dark.

However, the truth is that Jesus is the light of the world and He has overcome the darkness. So, look again with new eyes and see a different reality.

There is more light than darkness.

Open your eyes to see that there is actually more light than darkness because God is with us. You are not alone, He is within you, and there are many more with His light who are shining along with you.

Light shines in the darkness.

Fan into flame the fire that is the presence of the Holy Spirit in you and shine for His glory.

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
