“Living in the light means being honest about my sinfulness. My attitude towards sin matters for my fellowship with God and His people.”
Yesterday’s sermon message perfectly concludes my study of “light” this month.
The speaker reminded us of the importance of living what we say we believe. There is no point in denying our sin. After all, why did Jesus need to die for our sakes? Why do we put our hope in Him for salvation if we don’t think we’ve earned destruction? Why did He make a way for the forgiveness of sin if we don’t need His grace?
God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
1 John 1:5-7
Living this way – like the gospel is not true – removes us from fellowship with God. It also means that we are not in true fellowship with God’s people. We are not sharing life if we cannot admonish and exhort one another in truth, confess our sins to one another, and pray for one another to experience freedom. This type of community is such a blessing but pride often gets in the way. Beloved, God’s people are not defined by pride but by humility.
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
1 John 1:8-10
I’m so thankful for the transformative power of God’s light. Through repentance comes restoration of mind and heart for right living. And so, I pray – Lord, reveal where I’m not walking in truth and lead me in freedom, for Your glory, amen.

Process and products used:
This page in my NIV Journal the Word Bible features the following products by Creative Worship Stamps. These are affiliate links, please see the Privacy Policy for details.
- Jumbled Diamonds Stencil
- Vintage Butterflies & Blooms stamp set
- Worshipful Wordfetti stamp set
- Skinny Caps Alpha stamp set
I began by stamping the butterflies from Vintage Butterflies & Blooms then coloured them using pencil crayons. I used butterflies for this page because they commonly represent transformation. Next, I layered the Jumbled Diamonds stencil over that and applied ink, using a blending brush, in the margin and areas around the butterflies. I stamped the title using the Skinny Caps Alpha. And then I added some phrases from the Worshipful Wordfetti stamp set.

🎶 Walk With You ~ LO Worship
Who you walk with matters.
Walk with people who live the gospel; ones who will cheer you on and stir you up to good works. Walk with people who are also running the race.
Walk with Jesus, abide in Him, and keep in step with His Spirit. This is sure to bring about transformation. Our minds will be renewed as we get to know Him – the revelation of the Father – in a deeper and fuller way. Let us draw near today.
And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.
1 John 2:3-6
