Our shield and refuge

What does it mean to you that He is your God?

I’m continuing to study the names of God using the book “Praying the Names of God” by Ann Spangler. This week I’m learning about God being a shield and refuge.

These names tell us that He keeps watch over our lives and keeps us safe until our purpose is completed. Our lives are in a place of safety. Therefore, we can be strong and courageous. We can live by faith. We can surrender and abide in trust.

However, we can forget this truth and be thrown into despair when we face difficulty. I would argue that the difficulty is presented as an opportunity to live out our faith.

As God is our refuge and shield, we have to remind ourselves that we are indeed safe in Him. And, standing firm in that belief, we should then respond by calling on Him for help to endure and overcome. We should look expectantly to see the good that He is up to in it.

We can trust Him to fulfill His purposes for our lives. We can expect Him to use it for good even while it is less than the ideal we would choose for ourselves. He is God.

Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge. I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.

Process and products used:

These pages in my horizontal Happy Planner features the following products by Creative Worship Stamps. These are affiliate links, please see the Privacy Policy for details.

I started off using the Take Flight stamp set to create a cluster of images scattered diagonally across the pages in black ink. Then, I added some detail using the Vintage Sheet Music stamp in brown ink. The pages looked a bit stark still so I used the Delightfully Delicate stencil to add some interest along the diagonal using red ink. I finished the decor using some sentiments from the Wordfetti stamp set, along with the Hebrew and Typewriter Alpha stamps, and some layered washi tape.
