Tarry here, in the garden

I had so much fun creating this colouring page in my Linger & Savour notebook!

And, I had an even more blessed time slowing down and colouring the page as I reflected on walking with Jesus.

in your presence there is fullness of joy.

Process and products used:

This page features the following products by Creative Worship Stamps. These are affiliate links, please see the Privacy Policy for details.

I started by stamping the Finch Collage image. It wasn’t straight so I added an offset border around it using a black pen. Then, I made a mask by stamping the excess ink onto a piece of scrap paper and cutting out the bird and branch. I laid it over the image then applied some blue ink over the Cloudy Day stencil to create the clouds. After that, I used the Damask Pattern stencil to add some green flourishes to either side of the collage.

Next, I stamped the title using the Boss Lady Outline Alpha set. I added some lines at the top and wrote in the definition of the word “tarry”. Then, I stamped some sentiments from the Worshipful Wordfetti set in red ink.

I stamped the florals from Spring Blossoms on the bottom of the page, using masks to prevent overlap. Then, I stamped florals and butterflies from the Nature Silhouettes set in black ink.

The page was then coloured using pencil crayons.

🎶 In the Garden ~ Selah

I woke with the lyrics of this song in my mind, in late January, so I found and added it to my playlist. But, to be honest, I didn’t want to listen to it because I’ve only ever heard it at funerals which makes me weepy.

However, as I started creating this page as led, I saw that the words of that song were on the Finch Collage stamp! Looking into the story behind the song, I learned it was written by Charles Austin Miles who was inspired by the passage in John 20 which tells of Mary Magdalene’s visit to the tomb that resurrection morning.

Mary Magdalene lingered and encountered the Lord Jesus after He’d risen. Her heart turned from sorrow to joy.

The song is a reminder of the invitation we have to daily companionship with our Lord. An invitation to “tarry” (delay, linger, or stay in a place longer than expected, in expectation) and encounter.

Whatever that looks like for you, I hope you’ll say yes!

the joy of the Lord is your strength.
