What does gratitude have to do with prayer?
We know from Philippians 4 that thanksgiving is a part of prayer and gratitude is the posture with which we are to present our requests to Him. Sometimes, doing that is enough as, in the process of giving thanks, we remember that He’s given us all we need. Practicing gratitude helps us to see his constant presence and faithful love, and that gives us confidence in prayer.
As our pastor put it in a recent sermon on Psalm 17: “an honest cry for help comes from a heart that has wondrously seen the steadfast love of our saviour”
We can be genuine in prayer, with complete openheartedness, because we know Him and we know who we are in relation to Him. Practicing gratitude aids in that knowing. I’ve really enjoyed writing a running list this year; how do you practice gratitude?
